Welcome to the Australian Heritage Festival

18 April – 18 May 2026

The Australian Heritage Festival is the nation’s largest community-driven celebration of heritage, proudly presented by National Trust Australia.

For more than 40 years, the Festival has connected communities across Australia through a shared passion for our stories, places, and traditions. From bustling cities to quiet country towns, the Festival brings heritage to life through thousands of events that invite people to discover, reflect, and celebrate.

In 2026, National Trust Queensland once again joins the national celebration, showcasing the people, places, and ideas that continue to shape our state. Events will unfold across the month in every corner of Queensland — in museums and libraries, on the street and by the water, in boats, trains, gardens, and historic buildings — each offering a unique window into our diverse heritage.

2026 Festival Theme: Change – How has history changed us, and how are we changing history?

History is not fixed in the past; it is a living force, constantly evolving, shaping our present and guiding our future. This year’s theme invites you to explore the stories that have influenced our communities and to consider how each generation reinterprets Australia’s heritage — breathing new life into the places, objects, and traditions of the past — and imagining where they might take us next.

Join us as we celebrate the ever-changing story of who we are.
